PetSmart’s End of Summer Dog Deals may be over, but the seasonal transition has brought something more colorful to the store: Halloween costumes, themed beds, toys, treats, walking accessories, and décor for several types of pets.

PetSmart welcomes shoppers with seasonal dog deals, grooming services, and new Halloween merchandise.

During our recent PetSmart visit, we found a full Halloween Costume Shop, pet costumes advertised for under $20, seasonal dog treats, KONG Halloween toys, novelty cat beds, and budget-friendly snack displays. There were also promotions for cat treats and small-pet supplies, along with everyday essentials such as food, crates, flea and tick protection, calming products, and veterinary services.

PetSmart is also running a Labor Day Savings event. Treats Rewards members can earn 10X points—equivalent to 20% back in savings—on thousands of eligible items through September 7. Members must activate the offer before shopping, and product exclusions or other conditions may apply.

Prices, availability, and promotions may differ by store and date. Always check the shelf label, PetSmart app, and online promotional terms before purchasing.

The End of Summer Dog Deals Have Ended

The End of Summer Dog Deals promotion offered Treats Rewards members 5,000 points—equal to $10 in savings—after spending $60 or more on qualifying dog products and services. The promotion was supposed to run until August 30th, but you should check your local store to see if the company may have extended the offer.

The expired End of Summer offer awarded 5,000 points, worth $10 in savings, after a qualifying $60 purchase.

While this particular offer should no longer be considered active, it illustrates why joining PetSmart’s free loyalty program can be a good idea. Nevertheless, it illustrates why joining PetSmart’s free loyalty program can be worthwhile. Under the regular program, members earn 10 points for every $1 spent on qualifying products and services, while 1,000 points can be redeemed for $2 in savings. That calculation makes 5,000 points worth $10. Members can also receive personalized offers and member-only pricing, although exclusions apply.

The same expired promotion appeared beside Halloween walking gear, dog treats, food, and crates. These sections are still worth checking out, but shoppers should rely on current shelf labels. Especially since the official website is currently running a sale through Labor Day!

PetSmart’s Halloween Costume Shop Is Open

The store’s Halloween Costume Shop is one of the clearest reasons to visit early. The display advertised all pet costumes for under $20, with pumpkin, lobster, furry monster, and other colorful designs available.

The PetSmart Halloween Costume Shop featured pumpkin, lobster, monster, and other pet costumes for under $20.

PetSmart’s current online costume selection also includes examples such as the Thrills & Chills Dragon costume for $19.99 and angel, devil, and cowboy sets for $16.99. Prices and available sizes can change, so compare the current PetSmart costume selection before visiting.

Shopping early gives you time to find the correct size and let your pet try the costume at home. Check that the outfit does not interfere with walking, breathing, hearing, vision, or normal movement. The ASPCA also recommends removing costumes with small or dangling pieces that could be chewed off and abandoning the outfit if the pet shows distress. A Halloween bandana or themed collar can be a simpler alternative.

Halloween Harnesses and Walking Accessories

Halloween is not limited to full costumes. The photographed walking display included pumpkin, bat, dragon, and devil-themed harnesses, along with coordinating collars and leashes. You can still save on that – Buy 1 harness, Get 50% off 1 leash (online only)

Halloween harnesses and walking accessories provide a simpler alternative to a full pet costume.

These accessories may be more practical for pets that dislike elaborate outfits. Whatever style you choose, make sure the harness fits securely without restricting the shoulders or rubbing under the front legs.

Reflective or illuminated walking gear is particularly useful when taking a dog outside after dark. The ASPCA recommends keeping pets securely leashed and properly identified on Halloween because crowds, costumes, and unusual noises can cause them to bolt.

Halloween Beds for Cats and Small Dogs

PetSmart also displayed plush Halloween novelty hut beds for $29.99. The selection included pumpkin, monster, and black-cat designs.

PetSmart’s $29.99 Halloween novelty hut beds add a seasonal touch to a cat or small dog’s sleeping area.

These enclosed beds combine seasonal décor with a quiet resting place. Before buying one, compare the entrance and interior dimensions with your pet’s normal sleeping position. A removable or washable cushion is also worth looking for, particularly if the bed will remain in use after Halloween.

Halloween Treats and Toys

In the seasonal treats section, you’ll find decorated cookies and chews in the shape of pumpkins, ghosts, bones, caramels, monster donuts, and other Halloween designs.

Seasonal pet-safe cookies and chews turn “trick or treat” into a Halloween activity for dogs.

Only give products specifically labeled for pets. Human Halloween candy should remain out of reach: chocolate and sugar-free candy containing xylitol can be dangerous to dogs and cats. Candy wrappers can also create an obstruction risk.

The dog-toy aisle offered both seasonal and year-round options, including a KONG Halloween display, plush toys, ropes, treat-dispensing toys, products for strong chewers, and Greenies dental treats.

Another central display featured inexpensive balls and chew toys marked at $1, $2, and $5, making it possible to add a small toy without spending heavily.

Budget-friendly balls and chew toys were available in PetSmart’s $1, $2, and $5 value display.

There was also a Snack Bar with individually packaged dog treats for $2. This may be useful for trying a new texture or flavor before purchasing a larger package.

When selecting a toy or chew, match it to the dog’s size and chewing behavior and supervise its use. Replace anything that begins breaking into pieces small enough to swallow.

Everyday Dog Supplies Beyond Halloween

PetSmart remains a practical stop for routine items such as dry and wet dog food, dental chews, crates, bedding, and supplements.

The dog-food aisle included brands such as Nutrish, Nature’s Recipe, Natural Balance, and other formulas arranged by brand and nutritional category. Nutrish offers wet and dry recipes with beef, poultry, or fish listed as the first ingredient, while Nature’s Recipe carries both whole-grain and grain-free options made without added corn or wheat. Natural Balance is particularly known for its Limited Ingredient Diets, which use a single animal-protein source and fewer carbohydrate sources for dogs with ingredient sensitivities.

PetSmart’s dog-food department offers formulas organized by brand, life stage, size, and nutritional category.

When comparing these brands, look beyond the front-of-package claims and choose a formula appropriate for your dog’s age, size, activity level, and individual dietary needs. Dogs with suspected allergies or chronic digestive problems should be evaluated by a veterinarian before changing diets.

A KONG wire crate was also displayed with Top Paw crate covers nearby. The 5,000-point offer was still shown beside it when the photo was taken.

For food, supplements, or major dietary changes, the best choice depends on the individual dog’s age, size, medical history, activity level, and veterinary recommendations—not simply the largest shelf discount.

Is Autumn the Right Time for Flea and Tick Treatment?

Autumn is not necessarily the time to start parasite treatment if your pet is already following a veterinarian-approved schedule. It is a time when owners may mistakenly stop protection because summer has ended.

The Companion Animal Parasite Council recommends year-round flea control for both dogs and cats. It also warns that an established home infestation can take several months to control.

PetSmart carries cat-specific flea and tick collars, topical treatments, and other parasite-control products.

Contact with ticks can occur throughout the year, although ticks are typically most active from April to September. This means that early fall does not automatically eliminate the risk, especially for pets that walk in grass, brush, wooded areas, or areas frequented by wildlife.

The section included cat-specific collars and topical products from Seresto, Advantage, Frontline, PetArmor, and other brands. These products are not interchangeable. The EPA advises shoppers to use flea and tick products only for the species, age, and weight shown on the label, never apply a dog product to a cat, and consult a veterinarian about the appropriate product and timing.

PetSmart’s cat-care aisle features flea and tick collars, topical treatments, sprays, and other parasite-control products.

A practical autumn routine is to:

  • continue the prevention schedule recommended by your veterinarian;
  • check the pet after time in grass or wooded areas;
  • look around the ears, neck, paws, toes, under the collar, and other hidden areas;
  • treat every pet in the household when managing an active flea infestation, following veterinary advice;
  • contact a veterinarian if the pet has a reaction to a collar, topical treatment, or medication.

This information is general and should not replace advice from your pet’s veterinarian.

Calming and Wellness Products

In the wellness products section you will find calming chewables, diffusers, sprays, ear care products, wound care products and other over-the-counter supplies.

Halloween can be stressful for pets because of doorbells, visitors, costumes, and unfamiliar sounds. However, supplements and calming products are not automatically appropriate for every animal. Speak with a veterinarian before introducing one, especially if your pet takes medication or has a health condition.

Cat Treats Rewards and Food Deals

The cat-treat aisle carried Temptations, Bonkers, Friskies Party Mix, Greenies, and other crunchy and dental treats. Its Treats Rewards promotion offered:

Cat Feeding, Furniture, and Travel Supplies

PetSmart’s cat department extends beyond food and treats. The feeding section included standard bowls, elevated bowls, fountains, automatic feeders, and products advertised from $2.

Cat feeding options range from inexpensive bowls to elevated dishes, fountains, and automatic feeders.

The store also carried compact scratching furniture and small cat trees with resting platforms, scratching posts, and hanging toys.

Compact cat trees combine scratching surfaces, elevated resting areas, and interactive hanging toys.

For travel and everyday use, shoppers could compare collars, harnesses, hard-walled carriers, and backpack-style carriers. A collar is lightweight and convenient for holding identification tags, while a properly fitted harness can provide better control and may be more comfortable for dogs that pull on the leash. Hard-walled carriers retain their shape, offer a stable enclosed space, and are generally easier to clean; backpack carriers provide hands-free convenience for short outings with smaller pets but should have adequate ventilation, secure closures, and a firm base. For car travel, pets should ride in the back seat, secured in a carrier, crate, or safety harness.

Look for independently crash-tested products rather than assuming that every item labeled “travel” provides collision protection.

A PetSmart-Exclusive Mix & Match Cat Toy

One of the more interesting PetSmart-exclusive products was the Whisker City Mix & Match — Build Your Own Teaser Toy display.

PetSmart’s exclusive Whisker City system lets shoppers combine a teaser wand with separately sold attachments.

The system lets shoppers select a teaser wand and purchase interchangeable attachments separately. PetSmart describes its basic wand as compatible with Mix & Match attachments and exclusive to the retailer.

The advantage is customization: owners can replace an attachment or switch among different textures without necessarily replacing the wand. Interactive wand play should always be supervised, and string toys should be stored away when playtime ends.

Litter and Home-Care Products

The cat section also featured litter deodorizers, attractants, stain and odor removers, and cleaning sprays beneath a Treats Rewards sign reminding shoppers to activate offers in the PetSmart app. You can earn 20% back in savings (that’s 10X points) on ALL cat litter.

This is another department where checking app offers before reaching the register may uncover member pricing or bonus-point promotions.

Small-Pet Savings

The photographed Full Cheeks section offered buy one, get the second 25% off on small-pet bedding, hay, treats, and chews.

The promotion applies to matching bedding, hay, treats and chews for small pets.

That offer was valid through August 30. As of September 2, 2026, PetSmart’s website instead lists an online-only buy one, get the second 50% off promotion on qualifying small-pet bedding, hay, chews, and treats through September 27. Because this is time-sensitive, verify the current PetSmart small-pet sale before shopping.

Birds and Reptiles Are Included Too

The store’s bird display organized shopping into three steps: cage, engagement, and care. It showed a furnished habitat with perches, toys, food dishes, and other essentials. Now you can save 40% on select small pet habitats through September 7th.

The reptile section included Halloween-compatible habitat décor such as skull dishes, a haunted tree, a horned skull, dark hides, and a dragon-shaped platform. Although these pieces fit a Halloween theme, they are habitat accessories rather than pet costumes.

Before adding décor to any habitat, confirm that it is suitable for the species and does not create sharp edges, unstable climbing surfaces, or spaces where the animal could become trapped.

Banfield Pet Hospital Inside PetSmart

This PetSmart location also had a Banfield Pet Hospital, allowing shoppers to ask about preventive care instead of selecting health products solely from the shelf.

We visited PetSmart store #2237 in Sacramento, California, or the store at 2237 Park Avenue, Tustin, California.

The in-store Banfield Pet Hospital offers preventive care, examinations, vaccinations, diagnostics, and other veterinary services.

Banfield lists wellness exams, vaccinations, flea, tick and heartworm prevention, microchipping, diagnostics, dental services, surgery, and treatment among its services. Availability may differ by hospital. Its Optimum Wellness Plans are annual preventive-care packages tailored to pets of different ages and health needs.

Banfield can be especially relevant if you need help choosing parasite prevention, evaluating recurring itching, reviewing vaccinations, or deciding whether a calming product is appropriate. The hospital and PetSmart operate separate programs, and the PetSmart Treats Rewards terms exclude veterinary services from regular point earning.

PetSmart Alternatives: JustFoodForDogs, JCPenney, and Walmart

PetSmart is convenient when you want food, toys, seasonal products, grooming supplies, and veterinary services in one place. However, these alternatives may offer better value for specific purchases.

JustFoodForDogs: Best for Fresh Dog Food

JustFoodForDogs specializes in fresh frozen meals, shelf-stable Pantry Fresh recipes, toppers, supplements, and veterinary-support diets. It is worth comparing if you are interested in fresh food rather than traditional dry kibble.

At the time of writing, new Autoship customers can receive 50% off their first order, 20% off the second order, and 5% off recurring orders. Before subscribing, compare the regular cost per serving and check storage requirements, delivery frequency, and cancellation terms.

JCPenney: Best for Pet Fashion and Home Accessories

Although JCPenney is not a dedicated pet store, its pet department includes apparel, beds, toys, carriers, crates, scratching furniture, and other care accessories.

Eligible pet products may qualify for up to 30% off with code GYMCLASS. This makes JCPenney particularly useful for shoppers seeking fashionable accessories or pet furniture. Discounts and exclusions can differ by item, so confirm that the coupon appears in the cart before placing the order.

Walmart: Best for Everyday Value and Delivery

Walmart offers a broad selection of pet food, treats, litter, toys, grooming products, and other everyday essentials. Its main advantage is convenience: customers can combine pet supplies with groceries and household purchases in one order.

Eligible customers can try code 20INHOME for $20 off a Walmart InHome delivery order. Availability may depend on the customer’s account and delivery area. I could not confirm this promotion on Walmart’s official public offer page, so test the code at checkout before relying on the discount.

Overall, choose JustFoodForDogs for fresh-food subscriptions, JCPenney for pet fashion and accessories, Walmart for everyday essentials and delivery, and PetSmart for the broadest specialty-pet shopping experience.

Is PetSmart Worth Visiting for Halloween?

PetSmart is worth considering for pet owners who want to combine Halloween shopping with routine supplies. The strongest seasonal finds from this visit were the costume shop, costumes under $20, themed harnesses, $29.99 novelty hut beds, Halloween treats, KONG toys, reptile décor, and the $2 Snack Bar.

The End of Summer Dog Deals promotion has finished, and several photographed offers expired on August 30. However, the Halloween department is open, the free Treats Rewards program continues, and new online or app-based promotions may replace the expired offers.

Tiki Cat wet food display with Buy 12, Get 2 Free offer at PetSmart
PetSmart displays Tiki Cat wet food varieties with a Treats Rewards Buy 12, Get 2 Free Mix & Match promotion.

The best approach is to shop the seasonal selection early, activate any eligible rewards before checkout, and treat health products differently from toys or costumes: for flea, tick, calming, and wellness products, the right match for the pet matters more than the largest discount.
