Why Stay at Acqualina Resort? Location, Luxury & What to Know

Discover Acqualina Resort’s luxury, location, and beachfront appeal.

Some luxury hotels impress you with their rooms. Others stand out because of their location. Acqualina Resort & Residences on the Beach in Sunny Isles Beach, Florida, offers something that goes beyond a traditional hotel stay: a beachfront resort surrounded by impressive residential towers, tropical gardens, upscale restaurants, and the everyday conveniences of a coastal city.

What is most striking is how distinct the resort’s atmosphere feels compared to the urban environment that begins just beyond its borders.

But why do travelers choose Acqualina over other luxury hotels in the Miami area? Is it the beachfront setting, the resort’s reputation, its location, or the combination of all three?

Here’s a closer look at how Acqualina is organized, what surrounds it, how to get there, and what to consider before booking.

1. Where Is Acqualina Resort Located?

Acqualina Resort is located at 17875 Collins Avenue, Sunny Isles Beach, FL 33160, directly along the Atlantic Ocean, between Miami and Fort Lauderdale.

Although the hotel is frequently associated with Miami Beach, Sunny Isles Beach is a separate coastal city with its own atmosphere.

Unlike the busy nightlife districts of South Beach, Sunny Isles Beach is characterized by beachfront condominium towers, luxury residences, hotels, parks, and neighborhood shopping centers. This distinction matters when choosing where to stay.

If your ideal Florida vacation involves ocean views, poolside relaxation, and a more residential beachfront setting, Acqualina’s location may be especially appealing. However, if you want to walk out of your hotel and immediately reach the nightlife of South Beach, you should be prepared to travel.

A Resort With a Surprisingly Convenient Location

Acqualina occupies 4.5 beachfront acres, with approximately 400 feet of Atlantic Ocean shoreline.

The resort’s ocean-facing grounds create a sense of separation from the busy Collins Avenue corridor. However, you don’t have to travel far to find everyday conveniences outside the property.

During my visit, I found the contrast particularly interesting: on one side, a beautifully landscaped beachfront resort; on the other, shops, local businesses, restaurants, and the high-rise architecture that defines Sunny Isles Beach.

2. How Many Buildings Are Part of Acqualina?

One detail that can be confusing when visiting Sunny Isles Beach is the number of tall buildings carrying the Acqualina name.

Acqualina is more than a single luxury hotel, but not every building associated with the brand is part of the hotel itself.

There are four principal high-rise buildings to distinguish in the immediate Acqualina development:

Acqualina Resort & Residences

The original Acqualina Resort & Residences opened on May 16, 2006, celebrating its 20th anniversary in 2026.

This is the main hotel property, combining guest accommodations with privately owned residences.

Acqualina Resort combines Mediterranean-inspired architecture with tropical landscaping and oceanfront pools.

According to the resort’s published information, the property includes 98 guest rooms and suites, along with 188 private residences. Its Mediterranean-inspired architecture, oceanfront swimming pools, restaurants, and landscaped grounds give the property a distinctive identity.

The Mansions at Acqualina

Located at 17749 Collins Avenue, The Mansions at Acqualina is a separate luxury residential development.

Rather than offering conventional hotel rooms, it was designed around spacious private homes, ocean views, and residential amenities.

The Mansions has its own identity and facilities. Staying at Acqualina Resort does not automatically mean having access to every amenity at The Mansions.

The Estates at Acqualina

The Estates at Acqualina consists of two residential towers known as Via Acqualina 777 and Via Acqualina 888.

According to Acqualina’s official residential information, the development includes 247 luxury residences across two 50-story towers.

The Estates expands the Acqualina name beyond traditional hospitality into ultra-luxury residential living.

The residential skyline around Acqualina illustrates the scale of luxury high-rise development in Sunny Isles Beach.

This also helps explain why the surrounding skyline looks so substantial. Much of what visitors see in this part of Collins Avenue is residential real estate rather than additional hotel accommodation.

Good to know: The resort, The Mansions, and The Estates are distinct properties. Their facilities, access rules, and residential amenities should not be treated as interchangeable when booking a hotel stay.

3. What Makes Acqualina’s Beachfront Setting Different?

One of Acqualina’s strongest attractions is its direct connection to the Atlantic Ocean.

Instead of placing the swimming pools on a rooftop or an enclosed terrace, the resort features landscaped outdoor spaces stretching toward the beach.

There are three main outdoor resort pools, including areas designed for families and adults, surrounded by palm trees, pathways, lounge furniture, and the hotel’s recognizable red umbrellas.

An aerial view reveals Acqualina’s oceanfront pools, landscaped lawns, and signature red umbrellas.

From an elevated viewpoint, the design becomes particularly interesting. The swimming pools, green lawns, and beachfront seating areas form a connected landscape rather than a collection of unrelated amenities.

The Beach Is a Major Part of the Experience

The Atlantic shoreline is one of the biggest reasons to choose a beachfront hotel in this area.

From above, the contrast between the white sand, turquoise water, and colorful rows of umbrellas is striking.

One practical detail is worth understanding: Acqualina’s dedicated beach furniture and resort services are reserved for eligible hotel guests, residents, and Beach Club members. The surrounding Sunny Isles Beach shoreline also has designated public beach access points.

White sand, clear Atlantic waters, and red beach umbrellas create one of Acqualina’s most recognizable views.

The distinction is between enjoying the public beach and using the resort’s exclusive facilities.

Poolside Cabanas and Outdoor Spaces

For guests who want more shade or a private place to relax, Acqualina offers poolside cabanas available for full-day rentals.

According to the resort’s previously published rates, private cabanas near the adults-only pool cost approximately $350–$500 per day, plus taxes and gratuities. Prices may vary by date, location, and availability, so guests should confirm current rates before booking.

These cabanas feature comfortable seating, privacy curtains, a television, refrigerator, dedicated lounge chairs, and selected refreshments.

For a complimentary alternative, Acqualina offers oceanfront lawn seating areas with sofas, chairs, and tables. Eligible hotel guests can reserve these through the Acqualina App up to 24 hours in advance, subject to availability.

For cabana reservations and current pricing, contact the concierge at 305-918-6860 or use the Acqualina App.

Another feature that caught my attention was the pool’s design, including water jets and open views toward the surrounding towers.

4. What’s Near Acqualina Resort? Shopping and Everyday Essentials

Luxury hotels often emphasize everything available within their grounds. But I think it’s equally important to know what guests can find outside the property.

One advantage of Acqualina’s location is that visitors are not limited to resort restaurants or hotel services.

Bal Harbour Shops: Luxury Shopping Beyond the Resort

Another well-known destination is Bal Harbour Shops, located at 9700 Collins Avenue in Bal Harbour.

This open-air shopping center is particularly associated with luxury fashion, designer boutiques, jewelry, and upscale dining.

For guests who enjoy browsing luxury stores, it offers another outing beyond Acqualina’s beachfront grounds.

Because it is farther south along Collins Avenue, a taxi or rideshare may be more convenient than walking.

RK Village Plaza: Everyday Convenience Near the Hotel

Just north of Acqualina along Collins Avenue is RK Village Plaza, a neighborhood shopping center at approximately 18090–18290 Collins Avenue. The shopping plaza offers a practical contrast to the luxury environment of the resort.

RK Village Plaza offers convenient shopping, dining, and everyday essentials near Acqualina Resort.

For travelers, having a pharmacy nearby can be particularly useful. Whether you need sunscreen, toiletries, bottled water, or other everyday essentials, it’s convenient to have alternatives outside the hotel.

Aventura Mall: A Destination for Shopping and Dining

For a larger shopping trip, Aventura Mall is another option. Located at 19501 Biscayne Boulevard in Aventura, the shopping center combines luxury brands, familiar retailers, restaurants, entertainment, and public art.

It’s a good destination when you want a break from the beach or need a wider selection of stores than the neighborhood shopping plazas provide.

Unlike RK Village Plaza, Aventura Mall requires a trip away from the hotel, so plan transportation accordingly.

A Public Park and Another Way to Enjoy the Beach

For a different kind of outing, consider Samson Oceanfront Park at 17425 Collins Avenue.

This public oceanfront park includes a playground, picnic areas, a pavilion, restrooms, and a beach access path.

It is a useful option for visitors who want to explore a public recreational space outside the resort.

5. How to Get to Acqualina Resort From Miami and Fort Lauderdale Airports

Acqualina is situated between two major South Florida airports, giving travelers more than one arrival option.

According to the resort’s published directions:

AirportApproximate distanceResort’s estimated drive
Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport (FLL)14 miles20 minutes
Miami International Airport (MIA)19 miles30 minutes

These are the hotel’s approximate driving estimates, not guaranteed travel times. Traffic conditions, particularly on major highways and Collins Avenue, can make journeys longer.

Taxi, Rideshare, or Private Transfer?

For travelers arriving by plane, a taxi or rideshare is generally the most straightforward way to reach Acqualina directly.

You can also arrange a limousine transfer through the resort’s concierge for an additional charge. Although the resort does not publish fixed transfer rates, independent luxury transportation providers advertise one-way transfers to Acqualina starting at approximately $140–$165 per vehicle, with larger luxury vans costing around $230–$300 or more. Prices for transfers arranged directly through the hotel may differ. For an exact quote, contact the concierge at concierge@acqualina.com or +1 305-918-6860.

If you plan to explore Miami, Fort Lauderdale, or other parts of South Florida frequently, a rental car may be useful. However, be sure to compare rental costs with hotel parking charges and the expense of occasional rideshare trips.

Guests planning to spend most of their time at the beach and resort may not need a rental car for every day of their stay.

Can You Take Brightline to Acqualina Resort?

Yes—Brightline can be a useful part of your journey, especially if you’re traveling to Sunny Isles Beach from another Florida city rather than flying directly into Miami or Fort Lauderdale.

Brightline connects Miami, Aventura, Fort Lauderdale, Boca Raton, West Palm Beach, and Orlando.

The most practical Brightline stop for Acqualina is generally Aventura Station, located at: 19796 West Dixie Highway, Miami, FL 33180.

Brightline offers an additional travel option for visitors heading to the Sunny Isles Beach area.

From Aventura Station, you’ll still need a taxi, rideshare, or another local transportation option to reach the hotel on Collins Avenue.

Traveling From Orlando by Brightline

One particularly useful example is a trip from Orlando to South Florida. Brightline’s Orlando station is located at Orlando International Airport, near Terminal C. Travelers can board a southbound train and select Aventura as their destination, subject to the available timetable.

After arriving at Aventura Station, the remaining journey to Acqualina is by road. This option may appeal to travelers combining an Orlando vacation with a beach stay in South Florida.

What About Using Brightline From MIA or FLL?

Brightline does not pick up passengers directly at Miami International Airport or Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport.

The company offers airport connector services linking those airports with MiamiCentral and Fort Lauderdale Brightline stations, respectively, subject to schedules and additional charges.

However, if Acqualina is your final destination after landing at either airport, adding a train journey and another transfer may be less convenient than taking a taxi directly to the hotel.

Check Brightline stations and current schedules.

6. Acqualina Is Also a Destination for Weddings and Celebrations

Acqualina is not only a place to spend a beach vacation. The resort also hosts weddings, special celebrations, and private events, using indoor spaces and oceanfront lawns.

During my visit, I noticed a wedding welcome display decorated with red and white flowers. It was a reminder that a resort like Acqualina serves different purposes for different guests.

Some travelers come for relaxation. Others choose the property to celebrate an important occasion.

How Large Can Weddings at Acqualina Be?

According to the resort’s event information, its outdoor Great Lawn can accommodate events of up to 120 guests, depending on the setup.

Acqualina also offers smaller indoor and outdoor venues, including its Mediterranean Ballroom, terrace, and beachfront lawns.

The resort states that it hosts only one wedding on the property at a time.

For couples considering a destination wedding, the combination of a beachfront location and accommodations for guests can be an important advantage.

7. Why Is Acqualina Considered One of America’s Top Luxury Resorts?

Acqualina’s reputation is supported by several travel-industry awards.

In August 2026, the resort was named No. 1 Best Destination Resort in the United States in USA Today’s 10Best Readers’ Choice Awards.

It was the sixth time Acqualina received that particular recognition.

The results were based on a reader vote among properties initially nominated by a panel of travel experts and 10Best editors.

Acqualina’s 2026 Forbes Travel Guide recognition is displayed inside the resort.

The property also received Forbes Travel Guide Five-Star ratings for both its hotel and spa in 2026, marking the hotel’s 14th consecutive year with that distinction.

Why Do These Awards Matter?

For travelers comparing expensive hotels, awards can provide useful context beyond promotional photographs.

A property may have a spectacular building and beautiful beach, but maintaining recognized hospitality standards over many years requires more than an attractive location. Still, no award can guarantee that a particular hotel is the right choice for every traveler.

Acqualina’s appeal depends on what you value most: beachfront surroundings, luxury accommodations, dining, convenience, or proximity to Miami’s attractions.

8. Is Acqualina Resort the Right Choice for Your Vacation?

Acqualina has several advantages, but I wouldn’t describe it as the perfect hotel for every type of Miami vacation.

Reasons to Choose Acqualina

  • Direct oceanfront location: The resort’s pools, landscaped grounds, and beachfront facilities are designed around the Atlantic coastline.
  • A residential-style environment: The property combines traditional hotel accommodations with an upscale residential setting.
  • Convenient nearby businesses: Shopping plazas, pharmacies, restaurants, and other services provide alternatives to staying entirely within the resort.
  • Access to two major airports: Travelers can compare flights through Miami International Airport and Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport.
  • A strong luxury reputation: Its award history is a useful consideration for guests comparing premium South Florida properties.

What to Consider Before Booking

  • It isn’t South Beach. If your vacation revolves around Miami Beach nightlife and entertainment, expect to use transportation.
  • Luxury comes at a cost. Room rates are only part of the potential expense. Review applicable taxes, resort fees, parking, dining, and optional experiences before confirming a reservation.
  • You may still need a car or rideshare. Nearby shops are convenient, but larger shopping centers, entertainment districts, and airports are not within a short walk.

Luxury residential towers and Mediterranean-inspired architecture define the skyline near Acqualina Resort.

For travelers who prioritize exploring a different part of Miami every day, a more centrally located hotel may be more practical.

For those who want to spend substantial time enjoying an oceanfront resort, Acqualina’s setting is a significant advantage.

Final Thoughts: Why Would I Choose Acqualina?

What stood out to me about Acqualina was not simply the height of its buildings or the luxury of its facilities. It was the contrast between the resort and its surroundings.

From above, the grounds appear almost like a tropical garden extending toward the Atlantic Ocean. Once you step onto Collins Avenue, you’re surrounded by residential towers, neighborhood businesses, restaurants, and the everyday activity of Sunny Isles Beach.

That combination is what makes the location interesting.

Acqualina offers a destination-resort atmosphere without being completely isolated from the city around it.

Would I recommend considering Acqualina for a South Florida vacation? Absolutely—particularly for travelers who appreciate beautiful beachfront surroundings and plan to spend time enjoying the property itself.

Luxury is part of Acqualina’s identity. Understanding the location and choosing the experience that suits your travel plans is what can make the stay worthwhile.
