August is one of the most exciting months to visit Roger’s Gardens in person. That in-store sale is the main reason I would recommend visiting Roger’s Gardens now rather than simply browsing online. Add the Hummingbird Summer event, late-summer plants, citrus, artisan home decor, gourmet culinary finds and the first touches of fall, and there is a lot more to see than a typical garden-center shopping trip.
Why Visit Roger’s Gardens Right Now?
If you are deciding whether August is worth a trip, I think there are several good reasons to go now.

Third, August gives you a little bit of two seasons at once. Outdoors, the nursery is packed with summer flowers and greenery. Indoors, the displays are beginning to shift toward warmer fall colors, pumpkins and seasonal entertaining.
And finally, even if you do not need plants, Roger’s Gardens is much more than a nursery. Home décor, gourmet foods, gifts, tabletop pieces, garden accessories and seasonal collections give you plenty to browse.
1. Start With Hummingbird Summer Event: Create a Wildlife Haven
The Hummingbird Summer displays are in full swing across the outdoor nursery. If you want to attract these magical pollinators to your yard before summer ends, now is the time to visit store.
The outdoor display is filled with colorful planted containers and flowering plants arranged around a large “Create Your Hummingbird Garden” installation. It feels less like walking through rows of nursery inventory and more like seeing a finished garden that you can use for ideas at home.
Roger’s Gardens says its Hummingbird Summer program focuses on water-wise, brightly colored, nectar-producing flowers, native plants and feeders designed to help attract and support hummingbirds.
Among the plants Roger’s Gardens recommends for Orange County hummingbird gardens are varieties of salvia, lantana, fuchsia, hummingbird mint, coral bells, California fuchsia, penstemon, honeysuckle and mandevilla, among others.
That makes the event useful even if you are not planning a complete garden makeover. You can simply look for one or two flowering plants to add more color — and potentially more hummingbird activity — to a patio, balcony or existing garden bed.

This is probably the most important August shopping tip. Because this is an in-store promotion on select merchandise, it is not something I would rely on the website alone to find.
And that makes physically walking through the store worthwhile.
I noticed sale tags scattered among home accessories, décor and gift merchandise, so I would not rush through the indoor section. Look carefully at shelves, tables and individual product tags — especially if you are shopping for decorative pieces rather than a specific item.
The key phrase here is “up to.” Not every product is 70% off, and the discount varies by item.
Still, for a store where many products are premium or highly curated, finding something you already like at a substantial markdown can make an August visit much more rewarding.
3. Shop the Late-Summer Garden While It Is Still Colorful
Outside, Roger’s Gardens still looks very much like summer.
During my visit, there were large displays of flowering plants in reds, pinks, purples and whites, along with pre-arranged containers that make it easy to visualize combinations for a patio or garden.
The displays are also useful simply for inspiration. Even if you do not buy a pre-planted container, you can photograph combinations you like and recreate a similar look at home.
4. Citrus Trees Are Another Good Stop
Another display that impressed us during our visit was the citrus department. A large sign announced “Citrus Now Available — Shop In-Store or Online,” with oranges, lemons, limes, tangerines, grapefruit, kumquat, tangelo, mandarin and blood orange among the varieties listed.
This is another category where visiting in person can be useful. Instead of choosing from a product page alone, you can compare individual plants, their size, branching and overall appearance.
Tip: If citrus is specifically what you are shopping for, availability can change, so checking Roger’s Gardens before making a special trip is sensible.
5. There Is More Than Just Plants
One thing that is easy to underestimate about Roger’s Gardens is how much of the experience happens inside.
The shop blends garden-center shopping with home décor, gifts, tabletop pieces and gourmet foods. Roger’s Gardens’ current categories include home décor, tabletop and bar items, candles and diffusers, gift baskets, gourmet gifts and other lifestyle merchandise.
This is also where the up to 70% off signs become especially interesting. If you normally visit Roger’s Gardens mainly for plants, I would spend a little more time inside on this trip.
6. Fall Is Already Starting to Appear
August at Roger’s Gardens has another fun element: the store is beginning to transition toward fall.
I spotted velvet pumpkins, pumpkin-themed pillows and warm orange, burgundy and green accents mixed into the indoor displays.
It is not yet the full Halloween transformation, which actually makes this period interesting in its own way. You can still shop summer gardening and entertaining while getting an early look at fall décor.
And there is a reason for that transition: Roger’s Gardens has announced that its Moonlight Masquerade Halloween Boutique opens August 28, 2026.
So shoppers visiting in the middle of August are arriving right between the peak of Hummingbird Summer and the beginning of the store’s major fall season.
7. Don’t Skip the Gourmet and Gift Sections
If you are not looking for another plant — or your car is already full of them — the gourmet area is worth a quick walk-through.
I found shelves stocked with pasta, sauces, preserves, pizza-making ingredients, oils and specialty pantry items, along with curated gift baskets elsewhere in the shop.
The gift displays are particularly useful when you need something that looks more thoughtful than a standard prepackaged present.
8. A Small Late-Summer Market Surprise
One of the nice finds during our visit was a market-style produce display with tomatoes, citrus, melons, avocados and other seasonal produce.
It added to the feeling that Roger’s Gardens is a place you can wander rather than simply a store where you arrive, buy a plant and leave.
That is really the theme of an August visit: there are enough different seasonal displays happening simultaneously that browsing becomes part of the experience.
9. What About the Patio Furniture Sale?
There is one additional summer promotion worth knowing about, although I would treat it separately from the up to 70% in-store sale.

- Browse flowering plants and planted containers. Even if you do not buy one, the displays are full of garden-design ideas.
- Check citrus and edible plants.
- Go back indoors for home décor, gifts and gourmet items.
- Look at the early fall displays. They offer a preview of the bigger seasonal change coming later in August.
- Check the website separately for patio furniture. The Outdoor Living Furniture Summer Sale is currently advertised at up to 50% off selected collections.

Yes — and this particular stretch of August is especially interesting.
If your only goal is ordering patio furniture, you can easily browse the online Summer Sale from home. But that misses what makes Roger’s Gardens worth visiting right now.
The physical store combines select-item discounts of up to 70%, Hummingbird Summer, colorful late-summer plants, citrus trees, gifts and gourmet products with the first hints of the fall season. And that is probably the best reason to go now: you are not visiting for just one sale or one display.
