What’s New at Armstrong Garden Centers for Halloween and Fall

Armstrong Garden Centers in Newport Beach offers Halloween décor, fall plants and seasonal specials.

Roger’s Gardens may be one of Southern California’s best-known destinations for seasonal décor, but it is far from the only garden center worth visiting in fall. Armstrong Garden Centers combines a traditional plant nursery with Halloween decorations, home accessories, gifts and rotating garden specials.

The selection shown here includes colorful fall plants, ready-made container gardens, indoor plants, citrus trees and a surprisingly large Halloween display. Christmas merchandise has also started appearing, so shoppers interested mainly in Halloween may want to visit before the store completes its next seasonal transition.

Ready-planted flower bowls make it easy to add immediate color to a patio, porch or front entrance.

Armstrong is an employee-owned company with 27 Southern California locations and more than 135 years of horticultural experience. Selection, prices and promotions can differ by location.

Halloween Starts Before You Enter the Store

The seasonal atmosphere begins in the outdoor nursery. Armstrong has combined flowering plants, ornamental grasses and small trees with ceramic jack-o’-lanterns, skull planters, hay bales and other Halloween accents. It is a practical source of inspiration for shoppers who want to decorate a porch without creating an elaborate display from scratch.

Ceramic jack-o’-lanterns, hay bales and colorful plants offer inspiration for an easy Halloween porch display.

The outdoor setup also demonstrates how regular garden plants can become part of a Halloween arrangement. Orange lantana, dark burgundy foliage and pumpkins create a seasonal look while allowing most of the plants to remain useful after October 31.

Inside, the Halloween department offers much more than basic orange pumpkins. The assortment includes ceramic ghosts, expressive jack-o’-lanterns, monster planters, skeleton figures, witches, black wreaths and oversized flowers with eyeball centers.

The ceramic pieces are available in different sizes, making it possible to build a small tabletop arrangement or a larger display for an entryway. One clearly marked example was the Ghostlyz Stakes collection:

  • Micro: $11.99;
  • Small: $29.99;
  • Medium: $34.99;
  • Large: $39.99;

These prices were visible during our store check and may change as Halloween approaches. Availability can also differ between Armstrong locations.

Sculpted pumpkins, ceramic ghosts and quirky monster decorations create a playful Halloween display.

For shoppers who prefer something less traditional, the monster-shaped containers are among the most unusual finds. Frankenstein, mummy and creature designs can hold candy, small plants or other seasonal items. There are also sculpted pumpkins with expressive faces that look more like collectible decorations than ordinary jack-o’-lanterns.

Check the Current Fall Porch Packages

Armstrong is currently offering two ready-made combinations for shoppers who want a quick fall porch update:

  • The Classic Package costs $39.99 and includes two 1-gallon mums, two Jackpot pumpkins and two pie pumpkins.
  • The Grand Package costs $119.99 and includes two 12-inch mums, two 1-gallon mums and four large heirloom pumpkins.

These packages provide a simple alternative to choosing each plant and pumpkin separately. Armstrong notes that pricing, availability and promotions may vary by store, so check the current offerings or call your location before making a special trip.

Look for Garden Specials Near the Entrance

Armstrong posts its featured plant deals on the Garden Specials board near the front of the nursery. During the photographed Labor Day Weekend promotion, which ran from September 4 through September 7, the advertised prices included:

  • 14-inch seasonal color bowl: $14.99;

The Polygala discount was $10, or approximately 22% off the $44.99 regular price. These particular Labor Day offers have ended, but they show the types of limited-time plant deals Armstrong runs. Look at the entrance board and individual signs for the newest prices.

The seasonal color bowls are an easy option for a patio table, porch or front entrance because several flowering plants are already combined in one container. Shoppers who prefer to create their own arrangement can choose individual snapdragons, petunias, marigolds and other seasonal flowers.

Shop Fall Color Beyond Pumpkins and Mums

The outdoor nursery contains plenty of ways to create fall color without relying entirely on pumpkins. Bougainvillea, lantana and other bright flowering plants can be paired with deep burgundy foliage for a warmer seasonal palette.

Armstrong’s Newport Beach store specifically lists seasonal color, shrubs, trees and waterwise plants suited to Southern California among its regular departments. Staff can also help shoppers select plants for local coastal conditions.

Citrus Trees and Garden Essentials Are Available Too

This is still a full garden center, not simply a seasonal décor shop. The selection includes potted lemon and other citrus trees in several sizes, along with fertilizer, soil products, pottery and planting supplies.

The indoor shop extends beyond plants. Fall displays include preserves, drink mixes, candles, serving pieces, kitchen accessories and small gifts. Decorative paper goods, cards and gift wrap are available in a separate area.

Is Armstrong Garden Centers Worth Visiting This Fall?

Armstrong is a good stop for shoppers who want to combine seasonal decorating with practical garden shopping. The Halloween section is not as large or theatrical as a dedicated holiday boutique, but it offers distinctive ceramic pieces, porch decorations and plants in one location.

The main advantage is variety: you can shop for Halloween décor, assemble a fall container, pick up a citrus tree, browse houseplants and check the weekly garden specials during the same trip.
